Frederick James White was born and lived in Sussex. He enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal White successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, and was posted to 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl White was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 28, and was given a field burial behind a bakers shop in Utrecht Street, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 23 October 1945.
