Dennis Walter George Weighill, was born and lived in Doncaster, he enlisted in The General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Weighill successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 96, from 16 to 30 December 1943, his course report stated “Good reaction, high morale”. He was then posted to Headquarters Company, 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Battalion
He saw active service on Operation Overlord (Normandy), the Ardennes Campaign and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Pte Weighill was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
