Bertie George Warren was the son of Cecil and Beatrice Warren, of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Warren successfully completed his parachute training on course number 105 at RAF Ringway, from 1 to 14 March 1944. His course report stated “Cheerful and Keen – has done very well on course”.
He was posted to R Company, HQ Platoon, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Warren died of wounds in the St Joseph Psychiatric Hospital at Apeldoorn on 24 September 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in the hospital cemetery. He was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 2 October 1945.
