Albert W Ward volunteered for the airborne forces having previously served with The Sussex Regiment. He became a member of The 4th Parachute Battalion. He was the son of Albert william and edith Jessie Ward from Lambeth, London.
Albert successfully passed parachute jump instruction at RAF Ringway on Course 14. This course ran between 25 May and 4 June 1942. The course had 1 serious injury and 1 fatality, Piper Sands. The course notes also state that pupils had to train in very bad weather conditions.
It is believed he died of gunshot wounds after an accident. He was just 22 years old. He was laid to rest in The Rome War Cemetery plot 1.D.29
