James Wesley Trotter was the son of James B and Fanny J Trotter, of Armagh, Northern Island. He enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Trotter successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 83, from 15 to 24 September 1943. His course report stated “Awkward at times in his jumping, never hesitated." He was posted to Defence Platoon, 5th Battalion the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (D day landings).
Pte Trotter was killed in action on 7 July 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
