Basil Edgar Taylor was the son of Sidney Edgar and Hilda Blanche Taylor, of Ilford, Essex, he enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Taylor successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 68 from 14 to 27 June 1943. His course report stated “Has jumped well, an average type.” He was posted to 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Taylor died of wounds at a Main Dressing Station (MDS) on 7 June 1944, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 26 June 1945.
