Andrew Taylor Glen Stirling, son of Hugh and Gertrude Stirling, of Cardonald, Glasgow, enlisted into the General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Stirling successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 103 from 15 to 28 February 1944. His course report stated “good performance, landings good, morale good, overcame nervousness”. He was then posted to 4 Platoon, B Company, 156 Parachute Battalion, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Stirling was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
