George Lisle Smith enlisted into the 14th Highland Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces in late 1941.
He undertook No3 Advanced Training Course at RAF Ringway which ran from 21 to 29 January 1942.
L/Cpl Smith was posted to A Coy, The 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment and was later promoted to Sergeant he served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
Sgt Smith went to Arnhem on Operation Market Garden and was wounded in action and possibly died a prisoner of war.
He has no known grave but is recorded on Panel 8 of The Groesbeek Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery.
