Lawrence Sladdin was the son of Irvine and Mary Sladdin, of St Giles, Lincoln, he enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Sladdin successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 74 from 23 July to 3 August 1943. His course report stated “Good leader, quite good jumper worked well throughout”. He was posted to C Company, 13 Platoon, 5th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in operations in Italy, Southern France and Greece.
Sgt Sladdin was killed in action on 4 January 1945, aged 23, and was buried in Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece.
