Lance Corporal William Robinson

William Robinson, son of Thomas and Margaret Robinson and nephew of Margaret Jane McCrea, of Belfast, Ireland, enlisted into The Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’ Own Yorkshire Regiment) and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Robinson successfully completed parachute training on course 130 at RAF Ringway from 21 August to 2 September 1944. His course report stated ‘worked well’. He was posted to A Company, 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion.

He took part in the 6th Airborne Division response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during Winter 1944-5.

L/Cpl Robinson was killed in action on 3 January 1945, aged 32, and was buried in Bure, Tellin, (Belgium) temporary burial ground. He was later reinterred in Hotton War Cemetery on 20 May 1947.
