Morgan Gethin Probert, son of Harry and Sarah Probert, of Pontardawe, Glamorgan, enlisted into the General Service Corps.
He was then posted to The Royal Artillery.
In March 1944 Private Probert volunteered for airborne forces and qualified as a military parachutist on course 109, which ran at RAF Ringway from 27 March to 7 April 1944. The course reports states ‘Pte Probert Cheerful and capable, a confident jumper.’
He was posted to The 10th Parachute Battalion (10th Para Bn) and went on Operation Market Garden and jumped on the second lift near Arnhem under German fire on 18 September 1944.
Private Probert was Killed in Action on 19 September aged 26 years and given a field burial by Chaplain Daniel McGowan, MC near the Bilderberg sports ground.
On 24 August 1945 he was reinterred at Oosterbeek War Cemetery.
