Eric Robert George Prew was the son of Lewis Henry and Alice Mary Prew; nephew of Mrs J White, of Chambercombe, Ilfracombe, Devon, he enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Prew successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 88 from 18 to 30 October 1943. His course report stated “Quite, hard worker, no nervousness, good performer”. He was posted to 13th (2/4th Battalion The South Lancashire Regiment) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Prew was killed in action on 25 June 1944, age 22, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
