Norman Rice Philpott was the son of Theodora Emma Philpott, of Epping, Essex, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Private Philpott successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 89, from 28 October to 9 November 1943. His course report stated “Showed remarkable improvement”. He was posted to 9th (Essex) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).
Pte Philpott was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
