Maurice William Parris, the son of William and Maria Parris (nee Plez) and brother of Paul, from Bexley Kent, enlisted into the Royal West Kent Regiment before volunteering for Airborne Forces.
He attended Parachute Training Course No 89 at RAF Ringway which ran from 28 October to 9 November 1943. There were 281 trainees on the course from various units and between them they completed 2077 descents. Private Parris received a good course report which notes "Worked very well, jumping very good".
On qualifying as a military parachutist he was posted to the 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion.
Private Parris died on D -Day, 6 June 1944 aged 18 years. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Panel 18, Column 1 of the Bayeux Memorial, France.
