Henry Parkinson was the son of Maurice and Evelyn Parkinson, of Barnsley, Yorkshire. He enlisted into The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Parkinson successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 91 from 11 to 26 November 1943 and was posted to D Company, 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Parkinson was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in an isolated mass grave by a cross roads outside a garage in Arnhem, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 15 August 1945.
