Private Albert H Newman

Private Albert Henry Newman, son of Samuel J T and Emily May Newman, of Dunchurch, Warwickshire. Albert grew up in Rugby.

He served with The 13th Royal Warwicks before volunteering for the airborne forces. He undertook his parachute jump instruction at RAF Ringway on Course 44. Which ran from 28 December to 8 January 1942. His Instructor noted this about Albert's performance during this training:

"Confident and keen. Learned to control 'chute very well"

After successfully completing this course he was posted to B Coy, 3rd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Private Newman died on 25 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
