John McGlone was born in Cardiff and lived in Dundee. He enlisted into the Black Watch (The Royal Highland Regiment) and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private McGlone successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to HQ 4th Parachute Brigade, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte McGlone was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial in a mass grave in a wood on the Sonnenberg estate, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 23 October 1945.
