John Kitson, son of John Thomas and Emily Kitson of East Didsbury, Manchester, enlisted into the Prince of Wales’ Volunteers. He transferred to the South Lancashire Regiment and then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Private Kitson attended the 4th Advanced Parachute Course at RAF Ringway from 3 to 7 February 1942. He was posted to C Company, the 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.
Pte Kitson was Killed in Action on 8 March 1943, aged 28. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
