Alfred Ronald Kemp was the son of Fanny Maycock Kemp; husband of Violet Amelia Kemp, of North Wembley, Middlesex, he enlisted into the Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Kemp successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 51 from 15 to 27 February 1943. His course report stated “A good NCO who jumped well, took intelligent interest in his work”. He was posted to 7th Bn. The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Cpl Kemp was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial in the grounds of Grangues Chateau and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 1 June 1945.
