Samuel Jordan was the son of John Carrington and Louisa Jane Jordan, of New Holland, Lincolnshire, he enlisted into the Lincolnshire Regiment, before joining The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Jordan successfully completed parachute training at RAF Chaklala,(Course 6) India and was posted to HQ Company, 8th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Jordan was killed in action on 21 August 1944, aged 29, and was given a field burial at Le Bourg and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 2 June 1945. By the time of Jordan's death The 8th had been fighting as ground troops for over 2 months and were ordered to move towards the village of Annebault, which is just less than 20 miles east of Pegasus Bridge. It is therefore possible that as Jordan was with HQ Coy, he was one of the 4 men killed at 1400 hours 21 June 1944 in this area.
