James Arthur Jones was the son of Edgar and Edith Jones and the husband of Dulcie Jones, of Hereford, enlisted into the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Jones successfully completed his parachute training on course number 105 at RAF Ringway from 1 to 14 March 1944, and was posted to 3 Platoon, 21st Independent Company, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Jones was killed in action on 17 September 1944, aged 24, and was given a field burial by the roadside north of Reijerskamp Farm, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
