Emrys Davies Jones, the son of Thomas Edwin Samuel and Mary Gwladys Jones; husband of Margaretta Jones, of Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire. He was commissioned into the Welch Regiment and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Captain Jones undertook parachute training on No 40 Training Course at RAF Ringway, which ran from 1 to 11 December 1942.
He took part in the amphibious landings in Italy in September 1943, on board a mine layer, HMS Abdiel. Unfortunately, HMS Abdiel struck a mine in Taranto Harbour causing significant casualties and loss of life, including Capt Jones.
Capt Jones died at sea on 10 September 1943, aged 28.
He is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial.
