John Edward Jackson, the son of John Edward and Maud Jackson, of Leeds, Yorkshire and husband of Dorothy Jackson, of Leeds, enlisted into the Highland Light Infantry, and then volunteered for the airborne forces.
Sergeant Jackson qualified as a military parachutist on course 21/22 at RAF Ringway in August 1942 and was then posted to the 2nd Parachute Battalion and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.
Sgt Jackson was Killed in Action on 29 March 1943, age 24. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
