Company Sergeant Major John Edward Philip Hutchings was the son of Harold S and Louise Hutchings, of Bristol, and husband of Elizabeth Hutchings, of Clifton, Bristol. He served with 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion and took part in the D-Day landings in Normandy, during Op Overlord.
Company Sergeant Major Hutchings died on 6 June 1944, aged 26 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
