Sidney Arthur Hughes, son of Harry and Florence Hughes, of East Molesey, Surrey, enlisted into The Royal Artillery. Private Hughes later volunteered for airborne forces.
He undertook parachute training course 28 which ran at RAF Ringway from 20-28 September 1942.
Pte Hughes was then posted to the 2nd Parachute Battalion and took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch. He died on 30 November 1942, aged 21 years old.
He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
