Private Stanley L Bolingbroke

20 Aug 1944

Private Stanley Leonard Bolingbroke, was the son of Leonard and Charlotte Bolingbroke, of Brighton, Sussex,  and served with The Sussex Regiment prior to volunteering for airborne forces during World War II.

He qualified as a military parachutist on course 75, which ran at RAF Ringway from 26 July 1943 to 6 August 1943, and was posted to 12 Platoon C Company 9th Essex Parachute Battalion, with whom he fought in the Normandy campaign.

Private Bolingbroke died on 20 August 1944, aged 19 years old, and is now buried at La Deliverande War Cemetery, Douvres-la-Deliverande, near Caen, Normandy.

His younger brother, Michael Bolingbroke, followed in his footsteps and went onto serve with 3 PARA.
