Pte Frank Hoyle came from Huddersfield and served in The West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) before volunteering for airborne forces in World War II.
He qualified as a military parachutist on course 78 which ran at RAF Ringway in August 1943 and was posted to the 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion.
Frank Hoyle fought in the campaigns to liberate North West Europe, from Normandy in 1944 to the final mass allied parachute and glider assault of World War II, Operation Varsity, on 24 March 1945, and the subsequent advance to the Baltic.
He died of wounds sustained during this last campaign, possibly at Wunstorf or Neustadt, on 18 April 1945 and is now buried at Hepworth Methodist Chapelyard, Yorkshire.
