Michael Harris was the son of Charles and Julie Harris; and husband of Frances Margery Harris, of Devonport.
He was serving in 2nd Battalion, The Sussex Regiment, when it was turned over to airborne forces and redesignated and reorganised as the 10th Parachute Battalion, to form part of 4th Parachute Brigade, in January 1943.
Harris was serving as Provost Sgt when his battalion took part in the amphibious landings at Taranto in Italy, September 1943.
Sgt Harris died in an accident in Bari on 26 September 1943, aged 30 years, and is now buried at Bari War Cemetery, Italy.
