Private Gerald E Friedlander

Gerald Eleazer Friedlander was the son of Lionel E and Ada Lilian Friedlander, of Holloway, London, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Friedlander successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 92, from 17 November to 3 December 1943. His course report stated “Cheerful type, worked hard and well, good intelligent descents.” He was posted to B Company, 5 Platoon, 12th (10th Battalion The Green Howards [Yorkshire Regiment]) Bn., the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Friedlander was killed in action on 7 July 1944, aged 19, and was buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
