Allan Arthur Freane was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into The Royal Suffolk Regiment on 28 January 1944.
On 19 August 1944 he became a War Substantive Lieutenant, around this time he volunteered for airborne forces.
Lt Freane qualified as a military parachutist on course 132 at RAF Ringway, which ran from 4 to 14 September 1944, and subsequently served with the The 8th (Midland) Parachute Battalion.
It is highly likely that he took part in the Ardennes Campaign.
On 24 March 1945 he jumped on Operation Varsity (The Rhine Crossing) and was Killed in Action on 28 March 1945.
Lt Freane was originally buried nr Rhade Germany. On 13 May 1947 he was reburied at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany.
