Peter Sidney Finch was born in West London and lived in Middlesex, he enlisted in The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Finch successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 86 from 4 to 19 October 1943. His course report stated “Slow in sticks, needs more keeness.” He was posted to 7th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day).
Pte Finch was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 22, and was buried at La Delivrande War Cemetery, Douvres, Calvados, France.
