Trefor Evans was born in Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Before he joined the army his records list him as a 'tyre salesman'. Trefor was also a very good rugby player and represented Wales in the 1920s. He was commissioned into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in September 1940.Trefor volunteered for airborne forces in the summer of 1942.
Lieutenant Evans undertook parachute training on No 30 Training Course at RAF Ringway, which ran from 5 to 13 October 1942, he was then posted to the 6th (Royal Welch) Parachute Battalion.
Major Evans took part in the amphibious landings in Italy in September 1943, on board a mine layer, HMS Abdiel. Unfortunately, HMS Abdiel struck a mine in Taranto Harbour causing significant casualties and loss of life, including Major Evans.
Major Evans died at sea on 10 September 1943.
He is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial.
