Lance Corporal Walter Dunkerley, son of James William and Emma Dunkerley, of Morecambe, Lancashire, served with HQ Coy Signals Platoon, 10th Parachute Battalion.
He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden. He was part of a number 18 radio set team. He died on 21 September 1944, aged 24, along with L/Cpl J Beardmore. He had a field burial in a field behind the Hartenstein Hotel.
Walter is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
