Joseph Patrick Dowey the son of James and Jane Dowey, of Blaris County Antrim, Northern Ireland, enlisted into the Royal Ulster Rifles and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Dowey successfully completed his training at Ringway on course 3 from 5 to 13 December 1941, and was posted to A Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion.
He went with the battalion on Operation Torch in North Africa.
Sgt Dowey was killed in a training accident on 27 February 1943, aged 22.
He is buried at Dely Ibrahim War Cemetery, Algeria.
