James Arthur Davies, son of John Bannister and Lily Davies, of Birkenhead, he enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Davies successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to S Company, The 10th Parachute Battalion. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Cpl Davies was in a house on Utrechtseweg at Oosterbeek when he was killed by a wall which came down, aged 24. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial.
