Private James Carr

James Carr, son of Patrick and Elizabeth Carr, of Wexford, Irish Republic, enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Carr successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course 111 from 10 to 17 April 1944 and was posted to The 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion. He saw active service in Normandy, The Ardennes and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Carr was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 25. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial.
