Sergeant Charles Burgess served with A Coy, 2 Pln, 8th (Midlands) Parachute Battalion and took part in the 6th Airborne response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during Winter 1944-5.
He was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 78, which ran between 14 to 24 August 1943. His jump instructor noted this about his performance:
"A little nervousness but jumped well. Good show"
Sergeant Burgess died on 5 January 1945, aged 22 years old. He is now buried at Beauraing Communal Cemetery, Beauraing, province of Namur, near Luxembourg.
