The following extract is taken from the Pegasus Journal Volume XLII Number 2 August 1987:
"Private Marcus "Ginge" Dixon was the victim of a tragic road accident in Kenya on New Year's Eve , whilst part of the Battalion advance party, and died several days later in Nairobi.
It was a testimony to "Ginge's" strength that he fought for survival for such a long time, a fight which he could not win. For it was "Ginge's" strength that will be remembered. His strength of character that led to him being universally popular, his physical strength that led to him being universally successful at sport. His bustling energy on the field will be sadly missed by the Rugby team, as will his broad grin in the bar afterwards.
"Ginge" was the epitomy of the professional “Tom", and professional is an apt description. In a tribute to that professionalism his memorial service was attended by many, including, fittingly, an England rugby international, high ranking RAF and Army Officers, and many soldiers.
As was spoken at the Valediction that day he died doing what he loved most in the company of his friends. We, his friends, will miss him."
His father, a retired Group Captain, presented an engraved cup to the Battalion for use as an annual award to the best Battalion driver.
