Roger Green enlisted into the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards in 1956 and served at Folkestone.
He was posted to No 1 (Guards) Independent Parachute Company and undertook parachute training. He worked in the company’s armoury.
In 1957 the Coldstream Guards went on a recruit drive in Newscastle and those from No 1 (Guards) Indep Para Coy did night jumps from a balloon onto a local golf course. Lance Corporal Green broke his ankle on one of the jumps.
He left the army in 1959 and then emigrated to Australia on the £10 Scheme.
