Ronald George Chapman volunteered for airborne forces in September 1947, while serving with the Royal Signals.
He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 226 which ran at RAF Upper Heyford from 3 October to 5 November 1947. The course instructors report states: ‘Sgn Chapman A very cheerful pupil who did well on the course’
Signalman Chapman was posted to 6th Airborne Divisional Signal Regiment (6th AB Div Sig Regt) and served with them in Palestine. When 6th AB Div Sig Regt disbanded he went to Germany with 16th Independent Parachute Brigade Signal Squadron.
