John Leech was the son of John and Elsie Leech and the husband of Annie Leech, of West Derby, Liverpool. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Leech successfully completed his parachute training and was posted to 133 Parachute Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Leech was killed in action north of the DZ shortly after landing, aged 25, and was given a field burial in a small wood beside a track across Ginkel Heath and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 22 September 1945.
