Lawrence McDonald was the husband of Doreen McDonald, of Plymouth. He enlisted into the The King’s Regiment (Liverpool) and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal McDonald successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 94/95 from 6 to 20 December 1943 and was posted to 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl McDonald was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 30, and was given a field burial in an isolated group of graves behind the baker’s shop in Utrechtseweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 23 October 1945.
