Jeremiah Griffin enlisted into the General Service Corps in 1943 and was then posted to The Irish Guards.
Guardsman ‘Jerry’ Griffin served in North West Europe from July 1944 to March 1947 and was demobbed in October 1947.
He straight away enlisted into The Royal Signals. Sgmn Griffin volunteered for airborne forces in July 1948 qualifying as a military parachutist on Course 250, which ran at RAF Upper Heyford from 10 August to 4 September 1948. He was then posted to 16th Independent Parachute Brigade Signal Squadron and served with them in Germany and the Canal Zone. He was demobbed in October 1952.
In December 1952 he re-enlisted as a driver into the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) and served with the Expeditionary Force Institutes (EFI), which provides NAAFI facilities in war zones. After serving in Korea, Dvr Griffin was demobbed in July 1954.
He re-enlisted into 16th Independent Parachute Brigade Signal Squadron in 1956 and completed his French Parachute training course in Aldershot later that year, in November, and was awarded his wings by the French Ministry of Defence.
'Jerry' Griffin was demobbed from The Royal Signals in 1969 having reached the rank of Sergeant.
