Alfred Douglas Finucane enlisted into the Royal Army Medical Corps and volunteered for airborne forces during World War II.
He qualified as a military parachutist on course 21/22 at RAF Ringway in August 1942 and subsequently served with 16 Parachute Field Ambulance.
Sgt Finucane served on attachment with units of the 1st Parachute Brigade, at brigade HQ and then 1st Para Bn, in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Arnhem.
He was captured by the Germans at Arnhem and subsequently held as a prisoner of war.
