Ronald 'Ron' James Cunningham Glasgow enlisted into the Scots Guards in 1948,and was posted to 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, where he served on active service during the Malayan Emergency Campaign.

He volunteered as a candidate for 1st (Guards) independent Company The Parachute Regiment in 1951, and attained the rank of Sergeant. he was parachute jump trained at RAF Abingdon on course 324. 

He did Operational tours of Malaya, with Scots Guards: Egypt and Cyprus with the Guards Parachute Company.

Ron was 'Exemplary' and demobbed in 1953 and went on to pursue outstanding civilian career.

He was an exceptional sportsman so much so he gained 10 Rugby Union Caps Playing for his beloved country Scotland and various Rugby Union Clubs.

Ron became the Chief Instructor and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Combined Cadet Force at Dollar Academy. He was awarded an OBE in 1989 . London Gazette. His profile photo was taken just after he enlisted with The Scots Guards, 1948. 

Ron sadly passed away at the age of 93 on 6 October 2024
