Derek was born in 1935 and commissioned into the RA in 1955. He served with 33rd Para Regt RA and then when it was re-designated 33rd Parachute Light Regt RA. With the rank of captain.
He served with the 16 PARA Bde Air Contact Team (ACT) in 1963. In his time he was on operations in Suez, Cyprus and in the Radfan.
His non-Airborne staff jobs were: DAAG/DAMS HQ LFG 1969-71 and DAA & QMG HQ NEARELF 1975-77.
Derek retired in 1991 and subsequently moved to France. Derek sadly died in the Salisbury Hospice on 12 August 2024. His funeral was held at St. Andrew's Church in Laverstock
