Ernest Hurkett joined the Army 10 January 1939. He served with The SW Borders before transferring to The Parachute Regiment.
He completed his jump training at RAF Ringway on 'No.9 Preliminary Training Course'. This course ran between 2 and 14 March 1942. It consisted of 2 jumps from balloons and 5 from aircraft.
Ernest served as a Pte soldier with 1st Parachute Battalion, T Coy, 11 Pln. He served in operations in N.Africa, Italy and was part of the 'Seatail' for Op. Market Garden.
Joined the Reserves 15 June 1946.
