James P Parker enlisted into The Army 31 January 1940. He transferred from The Grenadier Guards to the 1st Parachute Battalion.
He was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 8. A L/Cpl and a Major were killed making descents. The deaths were blamed on the frost which had made the ground very hard. The PJIs were made to conduct parachute jumps immediately after the deaths in front of the whole course to prove that it was safe to continue with their jump instruction.
James took part on operations in N. Africa and Sicily and was wounded 3 March 1943.
He joined the Reserves 18 February 1946.
