Bombardier Richard Blundy

Bdr. Richard Blundy, from Kirkby in Ashfield, Notts., enlisted with the General Service Corps in Lincoln on 20 July 1944. Later on 31 August 1944 he was posted to The Royal Artillery (Field Branch) 1st Airlanding Light Regiment. He served with this unit until he joined the Army Reserves 17 February 1948. His records state that Richard was a sheet metal worker before enlistment. 

Richard was successfully parachute jump trained at RAF Upper Heyford in April 1947. This course consisted of 2 jumps from balloons and 6 from Dakota aircraft. He then went on to serve on Op. Doomsday in Norway and operations in Palestine. 

After his service Richard was a keen supporter of The Royal Artillery Association and was invited to join the, at the time new, 'Airborne Forces Security Fund'. Now know as 'Support Our Paras'. He took part in "PARA 90". This event commemorated 50 years of The Airborne Forces.
