John Banks joined the Junior Parachute Company at Malta Barracks, Aldershot in September 1962.
On completion of Depot and parachute training he was posted to D Company, 2nd Bn Parachute Regiment.
Private Bank served in Borneo, in 1965, and in Bahrain, Aden and the Radfan Mountains in 1966. His last year was spent in Brecon at the Battle School.
